While the intent of holidays - especially the end-of-year season - is to celebrate, they often can stir up a wide range of emotions and thoughts.
This piece explores how emotional patterns activated during the holiday season can influence our well-being, self-leadership, relationships, and the way we show up in all areas of life, including work.
If you’re gathering with friends or family and there’s unresolved tension with someone, you might feel on guard. It will create inner stress or heightened sensitivity to what they say or do.
If you’ve been moving through challenges - in your career, business, health, or relationships - you may close up feeling afraid of being judged or misunderstood.
If you feel behind or like you don’t fit in because your life looks different from others’, you may slip into comparison, self-doubt, or the pattern of self-rejection.
Or you may simply get triggered by someone’s comments or behavior, feeling overpowered, intimidated, shut down, judged, not seen, or not valued.
There are many combinations of what can arise.
And if you’re spending the holidays in solitude, you may feel alone, and this can activate feelings of inadequacy, helplessness, or unworthiness.
I call these mental and emotional disturbances trailheads, a term that comes from my IFS studies and practice. They are signals pointing toward what wants attention, healing, and clearing.
Because these thoughts and feelings are not the real you. They are not your soulful, natural Self.
They are patterns and protective parts that formed in response to life’s experiences - patterns that can be understood, cared for, and transformed.
(A special exception to this is grieving a loss of a loved one. It deserves a separate post and a different set of practices to heal.)
As we heal these patterns and tend to these parts of us, our true Self rises naturally to the surface.
And our true Self is harmonious, grounded, confident, creative, compassionate, and clear.
Our true Self can navigate disagreements, challenges, and unexpected moments with calm and poise.
It can stay centered even when others are reactive.
It can choose connection without abandoning personal truth.
It can choose boundaries without closing the heart.
And the magic of living from our true Self is that others begin to restore their peace and harmony too.
Their own patterns, triggered by fear, doubt, or self-rejection, have nothing to attach to when we project harmonious, healthy, peaceful energy.
In this way, our inner work becomes an opening for others to rise into their own inner alignment as well.
Once we return to wholeness, every part of life can shift into greater happiness and fulfillment. You experience:
- healthier relationships
- more ease in work/business
- decision-making with more clarity and confidence
- feeling valued and seen
- opportunities appear with more flow
- feeling lighter and more fulfilled
- clarity in your purpose and next steps
Life feels more supportive, aligned, and connected to who you truly are.
This is how the holiday season, with all its complexities, becomes a doorway into a happier.
This is the exact inner work I guide clients through across all my programs - clearing the patterns, often invisible, so you lead your life from your true and whole Self and in alignment with the universal laws.
